MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Compression for Longer Recording

The Xacti CG65 uses the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec to achieve high-compression video recording. The resulting files are small in size, which makes them easier to handle and enables you to record more precious minutes of high-quality video. Files recorded in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 are about half the size of DVD files (MPEG-2), but with equal or better picture quality. Vivid and sharp, they’re ideal for playback on big-screen TVs. For audio, the Xacti CG65 uses the AAC-LC (MPEG-4 Audio) format to record superb 2-channel, 16-bit audio at 48 kHz. Again, this format uses higher compression than earlier formats, and so helps to keep file sizes small. The CG65’s compatibility with SDHC memory cards means it can record movie clips for up to 5 hours 13 minutes* on a 4 GB card.

High-Sensitivity Movie Recording Even at 2 Lux

Advanced 9-pixel mixture technology enables light, low-noise pictures, even in under-lit scenes, such as outdoors at dusk. In Lamp mode, the Xacti CG65 can operate down to a minimum subject illumination of around 2 lux, giving you enough sensitivity to record by candlelight.

Shake Correction for Movies and Stills

The Xacti CG65 features a blur-reduction system with a built-in gyro sensor that detects the direction and amount of camera shake and then cancels out the blurred component to create sharp, well-defined still images. For movie recording, the CG65 employs a digital image stabilizer that differentiates between unintentional camera shake and deliberate pans and tilts. It compensates for unwanted shake without sacrificing the natural feel of your recorded clips. Thanks to the blur-reduction and image-stabilizing features, you can take high-quality 6M pictures at up to ISO1600. Even under difficult lighting conditions, such as in nighttime, indoor or flash-free scenes, the shake correction yields more natural-looking colors and expressions.

Note: The blur-reduction system does not work at shutter speeds of 1/8 sec. and slower, or with images that are heavily blurred.

Capture Still and Video Images Simultaneously

If you’re in the middle of recording a video clip and want to record a still image, all it takes is a press of the shutter button. The Xacti CG65 can record VGA-size (640 x 480) video clips and 6M stills simultaneously. That way, you won’t have to miss that precious photo opportunity just because you’re recording a video clip.

Note: Still picture mode may pause video-clip recording. Furthermore, the angle of view may change when stills are taken while filming video clips with the digital image stabilizer.

Large, Easy-to-Vies, 2.5-Inch TFT LCD Monitor

The large, 2.5-inch TFT LCD monitor built into the Xacti CG65 makes it easy to view and confirm images before and after shooting. The monitor rotates through 290°, so you can position it at your preferred angle. This lets you keep your subject clearly in view, whether you’re shooting high, low or at yourself.

Smooth Playback for Streaming Output to TV

Using motion detection technology developed by SANYO, the Xacti CG65 can convert 30 fps footage to 60 fps for smoother output on a TV. This minimizes the jerky lag that tends to occur with extended horizontal or vertical pans, and enhances the smoothness of movie clips played back on a TV.

Easy In-Camera Playback and Editing

When you want to search for a specific image, the 9-image display feature helps you find it quickly. If you’d rather view your recorded still images continuously, simply use the Slideshow feature. Or, for a bit of added fun during image playback, try the Art Mode. One of the Xacti CG65’s key benefits is the ability to edit your movies on the camera itself — this is when the time bar comes in handy. It serves as a visual tool, making it easier to splice multiple scenes together or delete unwanted footage. This way, you can make more effective use of the space on the inserted SD memory card. Yet another handy feature on the CG65 is the ability to extract a frame from a movie and save it as a still image.
